Earth And Space Science In Iceland

COURSE OVERVIEW

Explore the incredible natural wonders of Iceland while earning a high school credit in Earth & Space Science. Known as the Land of Fire and Ice, Iceland offers the perfect outdoor classroom, where volcanic landscapes, powerful waterfalls, massive glaciers, geothermal hot springs, and unique geological features provide firsthand insight into the forces that shape our planet.

Throughout the journey, students will discover Iceland’s fascinating geology and ecosystems by visiting the Perlan Museum, exploring the world-famous Golden Circle, venturing into caves and across glaciers, and learning about the country’s renewable energy and volcanic activity. The adventure culminates with the opportunity to witness the breathtaking Northern Lights, creating unforgettable experiential learning unlike anywhere else on Earth.

TOUR

Experience the vibrant capital of Iceland as you discover its colorful streets, iconic landmarks, and innovative culture shaped by nature and sustainability.

MANDATORY DATES

  • Online Orientation and First Class

  • February 6
    10:00 am - 3:00 pm

  • Parents, students and teachers meet in the morning to review travel expectations and the itinerary. Teachers and students meet in the afternoon for their first class and to work on introductory assignments.

  • Independent Learning Online

  • February 7 - 19
    (approx. 10 hours)

    *in total to be completed at any convenient time of the student’s choice

  • Students will work independently to complete and submit assignments. Teachers will be available to answer questions through the online platform.

  • Pre-Trip Online Classes

  • February 20, 27, and March 6
    9:00 am – 3:30 pm (synchronous)

  • Teachers and students will interact online as students participate in direct teaching, group activities, discussions and presentations.

  • Travel

  • March 13 – 20

  • Experience the course firsthand and make real-world applications.

  • Post-Trip Online Classes

  • April 3
    9:00 am – 12:00 pm (synchronous)
    and April 10 (asynchronous)

  • Teachers are available to answer any questions during designated hours while students complete their summative assignments.
