COURSE OVERVIEW
This immersive program invites participants to explore the rich and complex history of Black Canadians through direct engagement with historical artifacts, narratives, and cultural landmarks. Gain new perspectives and cultural competence as we journey through the stories of resilience and triumph that define the Black experience in Canada. This program promises a transformative experience, blending education and inspiration, and highlighting Black excellence as we honour the legacy of those who paved the way for freedom and equality.

Josiah Henson Museum of African-Canadian History
Discover the life and achievements of Josiah Henson, a pivotal figure in Canadian Black heritage whose legacy continues to inspire.
The Amherstburg Freedom Museum
Located in Amherstburg, Ontario, this museum stands at a key entry point for those escaping slavery in the United States, providing a vital connection to the Underground Railroad story.
Harriet Tubman Tour
Delve into the life of Harriet Tubman, the town where she lived, the people she influenced, and the church where she worshipped, all narrated to bring history vividly to life.
Chatham-Black Historical Society
Located in Chatham, Ontario, this society plays a crucial role in documenting the legacy of Black settlers, many of whom arrived as Freedom Seekers via the Underground Railroad.
The Buxton National Historic Site & Museum
Visit a significant landmark dedicated to preserving and sharing the extraordinary history of the Elgin Settlement, the settlement that provided a safe haven for escaped enslaved people and free Blacks seeking freedom, opportunity, and community in Canada.

Parents, students and teachers meet in the morning to review travel expectations and the itinerary. Teachers and students meet in the afternoon for their first class and to work on introductory assignments.

Students will work independently to complete and submit assignments. Teachers will be available to answer questions through the online platform.
