Canadian History in Belgium and France
COURSE OVERVIEW
Watch Canadian History come to life in Belgium and France. Learn about WWI at the In Flanders Fields Museum in Ypres, feel national pride at the Canadian National Vimy Memorial, and lay a wreath during the Menin Gate Ceremony. Travel to Dieppe for the Dieppe Memorial and Juno Beach Centre, which commemorate the thousands of Canadian lives lost during WWII.
Learn about the fragility of peace at Caen Memorial and the Canadian War Cemetery. Fall in love with the City of Lights while exploring the well known streets of Paris. Get a birds eye view of the city from the Eiffel Tower, stroll along the Champs Elysees, and admire the atmosphere of Place de Tetre. Enjoy a River Cruise along the Seine and learn about Paris’ history during WWII.

Students participate in the Menin Gate Ceremony: Last Post and the traditional final salute.

Learn about the storming of the ridge that occurred on April 9th in 1917.
CANADIAN WAR CEMETERY
Students visit the Second World War burials where a majority of Canadian soldiers lay to rest.
EIFFEL
TOWER
Learn about the 1889 landmark before climbing the stairs for an unbeatable view.
MANDATORY DATES

Parents, students and teachers meet in the morning to review travel expectations and the itinerary. Teachers and students meet in the afternoon for their first class and to work on introductory assignments.
May 25 - June 30

Independent Learning Online
Students will work independently to complete and submit assignments. Teachers will be available to answer questions through the online platform.
July 2 - 4 & July 7

Teachers and students will interact in mandatory online classes as students participate in direct teaching, group activities, discussions and presentations.

Experience the course firsthand and make real-world applications.
